Volunteer Spotlight- Jill Moeller-Serafine
7/1/25 - Jill and her son DJ deliver donated food from Tiny Pies to Austin Street Youth Ministry.
Jill Moeller-Serafine first heard about Keep Austin Fed through her work with the Lake Austin chapter of the Young Men’s Service League. The Young Men’s Service League is a nonprofit that brings together mothers and their high school-aged sons to do community service. The Lake Austin chapter of the organization, which started in August of 2024, partners with Keep Austin Fed to provide its members with flexible volunteer opportunities every day of the week.
As Keep Austin Fed volunteers, Jill and her son DJ have completed a variety of food rescues since joining in November. Jill intentionally chooses rescues that provide her with a chance to educate her son about diverse experiences. “We see [our volunteering] as a circle because it gives us the opportunity to travel together and talk about different communities that maybe we wouldn’t meet otherwise,” said Jill. “It has a lot of good conversation opportunities. ‘How do you think they arrived at a place of needing help?’”
Jill, who serves as the founding president of her chapter of the Young Men’s Service League, views helping others as vital to community development and longevity. But more than anything, she hopes to instill the importance of giving back in her two sons. “I hope that they grow up to have a heart of service… and see themselves as part of a collective,” said Jill.
