Welcome Louis Keller, our newest Operations Assistant!
September 2025- Louis has quickly adapted to their new role as Operations Assistant, organizing donations and completing food rescues.
With plants ranging from leafy greens to perennial flowers, Louis is an avid farmer who spends much of their time caring for their crops. Over time, their ever-present interest in the environment and sustainability has inspired them to do more for their community and ensure that Austinites have access to healthy food options.
“I got into farming because I care a lot about the environment, human health, and sustainability,” said Louis. “I learned that this job, and food access, have a lot to do with coming together as a community.”
In their new role as Operations Assistant, Louis will manage Keep Austin Fed’s cold storage hub, prepare incoming and outgoing donations, collaborate with volunteers and partner organizations, and ensure all food rescues are covered. After their first three weeks with Keep Austin Fed, Louis says they appreciate the drive of Keep Austin Fed’s weekly volunteers and their shared commitment to feeding neighbors in need.
“Volunteers are really the backbone of Keep Austin Fed, and I got to see the different ways that volunteers organize and communicate. I also have learned a lot more about Austin, the town I grew up in, and the different organizations helping people with access to food,” said Louis.
With some experience now under their belt, Louis has gained a better understanding of what it means to carry out Keep Austin Fed’s mission to help the environment by connecting surplus food with our neighbors in need. They are excited to play a key role in reducing food waste and hunger while protecting the environment, goals which initially drew them to join Keep Austin Fed.
“There is a lack in our society of helping each other, and I think that it’s really important that we try to fulfill that need,” said Louis. “Food is the most important thing we need in our day-to-day lives, so I’m very happy to help others meet that need.”
