New Faces at Keep Austin Fed
Katherine jumped right in to learn the daily routines of our staff and volunteers.
You might see John out there leading our weekend Grocery Giveaways and managing our Hub.
Welcome Katherine Andrews, our first Outreach Coordinator!
Katherine is a recent graduate of Texas State University, where she earned a degree in mass communication and a minor in business administration. During her time at Texas State, Katherine gained experience in public relations, community outreach, communication, and event planning as the public relations director at The University Star, Texas State’s student-run newspaper. She also completed an internship at Caritas of Austin, strengthening her writing, social media, and marketing skills while learning more about the nonprofit world.
Katherine was initially attracted to the Outreach Coordinator position to further develop her communication skills while giving back to the community. As she learned more about the role and the organization, she realized that the opportunity was perfectly aligned with her interest in community outreach and engagement.
As Outreach Coordinator, Katherine will be responsible for volunteer recruitment and engagement, community partnerships, corporate sponsorships, public advocacy, and communication. She hopes to support Keep Austin Fed’s mission by deepening community relationships and fostering awareness of Keep Austin Fed’s work and the issues surrounding food access in Austin.
During her first two weeks, Katherine has spent her time diving deep into Keep Austin Fed’s daily operations. She has shadowed Shade and Adrian, helping cull, sort, and label food, and helping with community giveaways. To meet some of our food donor partners and understand the experience of volunteers, Katherine has also done food rescues and completed food sorting shifts.
Katherine is excited to be at Keep Austin Fed and looks forward to getting to know all of our amazing volunteers and community partners and growing both.
